Does Fitbit Inspire Track Heart Rate

What Factors Can Affect Resting Heart Rate

Fitbit Alta HR: How to Track Heart Rate

Several factors can affect resting heart rate: stress, alcohol or caffeine intake, or fever usually raise resting heart rate, while regular exercise or meditation can lower it. Air temperature and certain medications can also affect resting heart rate.

Heart-rate zones, which are percentages of your maximum heart rate, can help you determine the intensity of your workout or activity.

Additional Fitness Tracker Features

Though I found the activity and sleep tracking elements of the Fitbit Inspire 2 particularly beneficial, the health tracker also provides a handy nudge to move if youre sedentary too long. If you havent logged 250 steps per hour, the tracker will trigger a quick vibration and a message. You can also customize when or if you get these reminders.

You can also receive vibrating alerts to phone calls, texts, and calendar events. Though this system was also a bit tricky , it was a useful way to stay connected when I didnt have my phone in hand. I made frequent use of the trackers Do-Not-Disturb mode, especially during work hours. And if you need even more chill, personalized guided breathing sessions can help you lower your heart rate.

Finally, the Inspire 2 will give you access to the Fitbit community, in the app or online. This is where you can share experiences with other Fitbit users, find existing contacts, and join groups to share goals and passions such as weight loss or hiking. Its basically another social network to monitor, but an easily accessible support system could give some folks a jolt of encouragement.

Resting Heart Rate While You Sleep

Heart rate tracking isn’t just about exercise. Fitbit’s trackers are also able to keep track of your resting heart rate a metric which refers to the heart rate measurement when you’re awake, calm and have not recently exerted yourself.

In order to estimate this, Fitbit interprets data taken from when you’re awake and when you’re asleep, meaning that those who take their device off before bed won’t receive the most accurate results.

Typically, your resting heart rate is higher than your heart rate while you’re asleep, so don’t start panicking if you notice that the figure is higher than the lowest number you see in your graphs.

Should You Start Your Wellness Journey Here

If you’re new to the world of fitness tracking, the Fitbit Inspire 2 is worth considering. For just under $100, it keeps track of your calories, heart rate, miles, steps, and workouts each day, and your sleep stages, breathing, and heart rate variability at night. In addition, is long battery life and compact design make it practical and comfortable to wear around the clockjust be sure to heed the wear and care warnings outlined earlier in this review to avoid winding up with a rash. Adding value to its price, the Inspire 2 comes with a one-year subscription to Fitbit Premium, which gives you access to workouts that can help motivate you to move, meditations to combat stress, and other wellness tools.

That said, if you can expand your budget by $50, we recommend the Fitbit Charge 4 more highly. It features built-in GPS, so you can leave your phone at home during outdoor workouts and see your real-time pace and distance on your wrist. It also has a larger screen that’s easier to read, Spotify support, and Fitbit Pay for mobile payments, making it a good deal more versatile than the Inspire 2.

Fitbit Inspire Hr: Verdict

Fitbit Inspire HR, Fitness Tracker with Heart Rate ...

Fitbit designed the Inspire and Inspire HR for people who are new to fitness tracking and looking for a motivational device. For $100, the Inspire HR is the best entry-level band you can buy.

But I also want more from Fitbit. Its latest devices, which include a cheaper version of its popular Versa smartwatch, are more affordable than past Fitbits. They’re also lighter on features. Fitbit is aiming to make fitness trackers less expensive and therefore more accessible but the company isn’t building a feature set that will encourage people to keep wearing those bands months down the line. Apple has already proved that people will pay for pricey wearables packed with powerful health features . It feels like Fitbit isn’t even trying.

I want Fitbit to make its devices more accessible and more advanced. Inspire HR delivers on the former, but I’m holding out hope for another Fitbit this year that does more to move the needle.

Hi, I am using the Fitbit Inspire just purchased today. I have arrhythmia and need to track my resting heart rate over a period of time. Does it keep track in a graph chart? so I can show my Dr. for review. thank you

Hi Unfortunately Fitbits are not medical devices and the type of heart rate monitor does not cope well with arrythmias, depending on the type and frequency of arrythmia. I know they dont cope well with either Atrial Fibrillation or with ectopic heart beats. During episodes of rythm disturbance the resting heart rate is likely to be unreliable, if you are hoping for rates for this time period. If the episodes of arrythmia are constant or almost constant then the overall RHR is not likely to be accurate, however if you have long periods of normal rythm then you might get a realistic RHR. For resting heart rate you get a number for each day which is assembled into a graph on your phone, but I am not sure if you are able to export the graph. You could certainly show the graph on your phone to your dr. In your app on your phone tap the heart rate tile and it will bring up a graph of your RHR

Performance: However You Exercise There’s An App For That

The Fitbit Inspire HR has a host of different exercise apps for whatever activities you enjoy and features specific modes for running, biking, swimming, treadmill workouts, weight lifting, and interval training.

As you exercise, the touchscreen allows you to scroll through various metrics to receive mid-session feedback. In Run mode, for instance, the Inspire HR will show you elapsed time, the distance you’ve covered, current mile pace, average mile pace, current heart rate, calories burned, the number of steps during your workout, as well as the digital clock face.

Unlike more high-end fitness smartwatches, the Inspire HR does not have built-in GPS. It instead calculates your distance and approximate mile pace by measuring your stride length with its in-built step counting technology. To get the most accurate GPS data, you will need to use Fitbit’s connected GPS feature. This requires you to take your smartphone along with you during your workout so the Inspire HR can access your phone’s GPS signal.

Although the mid-workout metrics referenced above are great for real-time monitoring, the relatively small touchscreen can be a challenge to navigate and refer to when exercising. Sweaty fingers or water on the device makes scrolling through your stats a challenge, too. While testing the Run mode on a hot and sweaty afternoon, it often took us a few attempts to use the touch commands.

Review Your Time In Heart Rate Zones

At the end of your workout, click on the exercise tileon your Fitbit app dashboard to view a summary of your workout. In addition to seeing exercise duration, calories burned, and average heart rate, youll also be able to see how much time you spent in each of your three heart rate zones and how your heart rate fluctuated over the course of your workout.

If your heart rate information seems offtoo high or too low based on how hard you felt like you were workingand you know you were wearing your tracker correctly , you may need to set custom heart rate zones.

Heart rate tracking is helpful in the short termit helps you evaluate your workout and see what, if anything, you should do differently next timebut its also valuable over time. Fitbit Inspire 2 Review: Performance

Fitbit Inspire 2 Science Test (It’s great!): Sleep, Heart Rate, Step Review

However you choose to wear it, for the most part, the Fitbit Inspire 2 functions as a basic pedometer, diligently estimating your steps so you can improve or maintain your fitness. If you choose to keep it on your wrist, it will also measure heart rate, which means it can spot when youre being especially active to help estimate calorie burn that bit more efficiently. This is essential for Fitbits Active Zone Minutes feature. Introduced in early 2020 year with the Fitbit Charge 4, this takes step counting to a new level, not just counting how much you move, but the quality of your movement, awarding you more points the more effort youre putting in as measured by your heart rate. Take a ten-minute stroll to the shops in your fat-burning heart-rate zone, and youll get ten points towards your 150-minute weekly target. Really push yourself and power walk or run your way into cardio or peak zones and youll get 20 points.

Fitbit Inspire Hr: Design And Comfort

Fitbit Inspire/Inspire HR key specs

  • Swimproof design with swim tracking
  • Track steps, distance, active minutes, calories burned
  • Sleep tracking
  • 24/7 heart rate tracking
  • Sleep Stages
  • Guided Breathing
  • Connected GPS
  • Goal-based exercise modes

The upside is that it weighs just 20 grams, making it barely noticeable to wear, and really easy to sleep with. And it still manages 50 meters if water resistance.

The display itself maximises the width of the unit and is a greyscale 128 x 72 touchscreen.

Its not winning any awards for screen clarity and does have issues with legibility in bright, direct sunshine, but it does the job. It doesnt feel lacking like the Charge 4 does, just because visual feedback is so minimal.

However, like the Charge 4 its irritating that a screen so lacklustre isnt always-on. Whats more, the wrist raise is a bit slow and often doesnt register, which means its not a brilliant time-telling device.

You cycle through data by swiping the screen, and there are menus up and down which can be a little disorientating. Swiping down will let you see your daily stats, which are all easy-to-read on the small screen and up will get you to menu options including exercise mode.

Theres a button on the device too, which will also let you cycle through stats, take you back to the main clock screen and start/stop workouts.

Likewise, you can actually lose the band altogether. The Inspire HR can be clipped onto waistbands or bras unlike any other Fitbit.

Fitbit Inspire Hr: Battery Life

Fitbit claims you should get around five days battery life from the Inspire HR, which is two days shorter than the claimed battery life on the Charge 4. Based on our experience, that’s exactly what you get with the full gamut of features turned on.

As is the Fitbit norm, your device will flash up when you’re running low and fire off an email to your linked account to let you know there too, giving you multiple calls to charge.

It’s likely the all-day heart rate monitoring and notification support, which can be deactivated, are the biggest battery drains here.

Throw in exercise tracking and that’s going to dent things further, but on the whole it holds up well for those five days. When you’ve hit zero battery, you’ll need to stick it onto its charger for a couple of hours to get back that five day’s worth of tracking time.

How Does My Fitbit Device Calculate My Heart

The formula Fitbit uses to calculate your heart-rate zones is based on your device.

Fitbit personalizes your heart-rate zones using your heart rate reserve, which is the difference between your maximum heart rate* and your resting heart rate .

Heart rate reserve is an indication of your overall cardiovascular fitness. While your maximum heart rate is generally determined by age, your resting heart rate can be lowered by increasing your fitness level. By lowering your resting heart rate, you can increase your heart rate reserve.

For example, if you are 45 years old and your resting heart rate is 74 bpm, heres the math:

First, calculate your maximum heart rate and heart rate reserve.

Metric
Common formula of 220 – age
Heart Rate Reserve

Maximum heart rate – resting heart rate

Target Heart Rate Per Zone + resting heart rate

Next, use your heart rate reserve to calculate your personalized heart-rate zones.

Heart-Rate Zone
Bottom of zone: + 74 = 114 bpmTop of zone: + 74 = 134 bpm
Cardio Zone

Bottom of zone: + 74 = 135 bpmTop of zone: + 74 = 159 bpm

Peak Zone Bottom of zone: + 74 = 160 bpmTop of zone: maximum heart rate

Note that you can see your personalized heart-rate zones on the Active Zone Minutes screen in the Fitbit app.

*Occasionally during intense exercise, you might notice your heart rate go above your Fitbit-calculated maximum heart rate.

Get Your Fitbit Inspire 2 To Track Your Heart Rate

If you turned on the heart rate option in your Fitbit Inspire 2s settings app but still arent getting any heart rate information, you likely set your Inspires quick settings to the clip standard.

When you set your Inspire 2 to On Clip, it automatically turns off features, including heart-rate tracking, automatic exercise tracking, Active Zone Minutes, and Water Lock.

So to fix it, all you need to do is change your Fitbit Inspire 2 to the on-wrist standard. And thats easy. Heres how:

  • On your Fitbit Inspire, open the Quick Settings menu by pressing both side buttons for 2 seconds.
  • Scroll down the screen, and just below DND , look for the setting On Clip.
  • Tap this to change to On Wrist.
  • Now, check if your Inspire shows your heart rate.

If not, reboot your Inspire by going to the Settings app and tap Reboot Device.

When you reboot your Inspire, it restarts but does not delete any of your data.

How Accurate Is Fitbit Heart Rate Data

Like with any optical heart rate solution, Fitbit’s PurePulse technology is solid but not without its issues.

Fluctuating between high heart rate and low heart rate during interval training can often prove to be problematic for the heart rate monitor to keep up with. As we say though, Fitbit’s trackers aren’t alone in this problem.

If you sense your Fitbit device isn’t quite tracking your heart rate correctly, there are a couple of things to keep in mind.

Firstly, a good tight fit is extremely important as light leaking in from the sides of your watch will disrupt the signal.

When you’re not exercising, wear your device a finger’s width below your wrist bone. And when you are exercising, consider wearing the device slightly higher on your wrist for more accurate readings, since some exercises will cause your wrist to move frequently.

Naturally, as with any wrist-based monitor, you’ll also need to make sure the back of the watch is touching the skin at all times, while also ensuring it isn’t strapped too tightly onto your wrist.

Fitbit’s new Versa 3 and Sense watches have ushered in PurePulse 2.0, which aims to improve the performance of that sensor technology. It’s achieving that by increasing the number of light transmitters and receivers that are used to get that data. It means that Fitbit can now use 6 independent optical channels across a larger surface area to improve the reliability of the data.
