Treatment Of Fast Heart Rate

High Heart Rate After Covid
Patients dealing with cardiac symptoms of long COVID is something that Dr. Ian Paterson sees a lot.
Paterson, a cardiologist and professor at the University of Alberta, works at the Mazankowski Alberta Heart Institute, where he has had many patients referred to him because of their cardiac issues following COVID-19 infections.
Palpitations or erratic heart beat, yeah, that would rank up there as one of the more common symptoms that I get asked to provide advice about, he told CTVNews.ca in a phone interview, adding that chest pain is another common symptom he is asked about.
Some patients have these spikes in their heart rate, often the spikes happen with minimal activity.
Last summer, Paterson helped the Canadian Cardiovascular Society to create a primer for physicians to help in treating long COVID patients with cardiac symptoms.
For some patients who experience spiking heart rates in the first few weeks after illness, this may not be a precursor of long COVID, but a part of the healing process.
If a patient was quite ill and was on bedrest for several weeks, then the body rapidly loses muscle mass and you lose a good amount of your fitness, Paterson said. And so when you exert yourself, you will have higher heart rates with exertion and even at rest, because you’re just not at the same level of fitness that you were before your illness.

It Started With Chest Pain
On hole four, my friends told me I started experiencing chest pains but just dismissed them as indigestion. I didn’t have a history of heart problems and had no reason to be concerned. My game improved after the first hole and I actually started playing quite well, but the chest pain and shortness of breath were getting worse. They knew my heart had stopped and started doing everything they could to keep me alive using CPR and the automated defibrillator to stabilize my heart until paramedics arrived.

Heart Attack Symptoms Vary Widely
Dr. Rimmerman emphasizes that the symptoms of heart attack or angina can vary greatly from person to person. Some people experience no symptoms at all. Others experience crushing chest pain. Others may feel only arm, throat or jaw discomfort.
But the discomfort is usually unrelenting, typically lasting five minutes or more.
Regardless of where the pain is, people typically cant find a position that relieves the pain, Dr. Rimmerman says. Nor do they find relief by taking a drink of water, popping antacids or taking deep breaths.
And that means its time to call 911.
When A Slow Heart Rate Is Normal
The sinoatrial node is often referred to as the hearts natural pacemaker. Its the part of the heart that produces electrical signals that trigger each heartbeat.
At rest, the sinus node typically generates electrical impulses for a heart rate between 60 and 100 times per minute, which is a normal sinus rhythm.
Sinus bradycardia is a heart rate between 50 to 60 beats per minute. While technically outside of the normal range, these values can be entirely normal for some people. A healthy body is very good at regulating the heart rate to support the bodys functions.
Physiological bradycardia is a form of sinus bradycardia. Among people who have itincluding healthy young people and older people in good physical conditiontheir resting heart rate may hover in the 40s or 50s. People also have lower heart rates when sleeping.
Slow heart rates without symptoms usually are no cause for concern. However, when the heart rate becomes too slow to pump enough blood, it needs treatment. Sinus bradycardia that produces symptoms is a sign you should seek medical care.
